GPACalc is a convenience calculator wrapped around published grading conventions. The limits below are worth knowing before you rely on a number.

Conventions, not law

There is no official US grade-point scale — only conventions. This site ships the common ones (standard +/− with A = 4.0 and A− = 3.7, an uncapped 4.3 A+, flat letters, honors +0.5 and AP +1.0 weighting), but the scale that governs your transcript is whatever your school or district publishes, along with its own rounding rules, weighting eligibility and pass/fail treatment. Where the calculator and the handbook disagree, the handbook is right.

Arithmetic has boundaries

The math itself is dependable for the inputs given. What it cannot price in: whether dropping a course is wise, how switching to pass/fail plays out, whether a retake replaces a grade, or how an admissions office will recompute your record. Those are policy questions for a counselor or registrar — nothing here counts as academic or admissions advice.

No warranty

Scales are checked against published sources and shown next to the controls, yet the site is still provided without warranty of accuracy or availability. Official figures — transcripts, scholarship or athletic eligibility — come from the registrar’s own calculation.

Advertising

Ad placements (such as Google AdSense) may fund the site; they don’t set the scales or touch the math.

Liability

To the maximum extent the law permits, GPACalc and its maintainers disclaim liability for outcomes tied to use of the site or reliance on its output, including academic and admissions results. The school profile and the registrar remain the authorities for any number that matters.
